Comeback Daniil Medvedev Secures First Title in 882 Days

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his first championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on court had led commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour championship, took control to push for a final set.

He defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
